Coverage is by ZIP code. This page also explains a decision taken against our own plan, which seems fairer to publish than to leave as a silence.

The summary

ZIP code routing, to contractors covering that area. There are no town pages because supply pipe material is not recorded by place, and the housing-age table that might have substituted for it is already carrying a different subject.

PipeRenew is a referral service, not a contractor. We connect homeowners with independent contractors. Contractors are required to hold whatever credential their state or municipality demands, and replacing a water distribution system is a permitted alteration nearly everywhere — ask to see the permit. We carry out no work, we sell no materials, we do not set prices, and we never charge homeowners anything — the contractors in our network pay us when we route them a call. Nothing here is legal advice about any claim.

How routing works

We route to independent contractors who cover a given ZIP code. Coverage is not uniform — a state we cover well in one metro may have gaps elsewhere in it. If nobody covers yours we will say so on the call rather than take your details and leave you waiting.

The state pages we planned and did not build

The plan for this site called for a page per state, and the obvious figure to build them on was the age of the housing stock: older houses in a state, therefore more repiping.

That inference does not hold, and it fails in both directions. A house built in 1955 may have been completely repiped in 1992 and be newer inside its walls than its neighbors. A house built in 1988 may be on polybutylene and be the more pressing case of the two. What matters is what is in the walls and when it went in, and no dataset anywhere records that by place.

So a state page would have said "homes in this state are older than average" with a plumbing sentence attached, fifty times. That is a template with a state name in it, and we would rather publish the reasoning than the pages.

What is true everywhere

The materials, which are the same everywhere. The failure modes, which are the same everywhere. And the polybutylene date window, which comes from a federal class action and applies identically across the country — one of the few genuinely national dates in household plumbing.
